WHAT DOES A LINGUIST DO? An introduction for zombies
Synopsis
The difficulty with the question “What does a linguist do?” is that there are usually a number of false beliefs about the object of study of linguistics. Many believe that it is limited to writing well or speaking correctly, which is far from reality, and that the field of work for those who study linguistics is limited to teaching Spanish and that there is nothing else. This idea is far removed from reality, as this book also deals with.
For this reason, this book aims to demystify some of these beliefs and to clarify the object of study of the discipline. The book is organized around the questions that often cause confusion among those unfamiliar with the work of a linguist.
At the same time, the book can serve as a short introduction for those who want to have a general overview of linguistics.
