Synopsis

For various historical reasons, the academic tradition of Mexican film studies has been dominated by the social sciences and, in particular, by historiographic approaches; however, thanks to the opening of the Cineteca Nacional, during the XV International Congress on Film Theory and Analysis, a remarkable balance was achieved between humanistic perspectives and those coming from social disciplines.
This diversity of approaches to the study of Mexican cinema shows that it is a field of research with great vitality and that it awakens the interest of numerous researchers in the country. We hope that the reading of these materials will contribute to enrich the field of research on Mexican cinema.
