IN THE STREET, IN THE HOUSE, IN THE FIELD

Synopsis

The poems rescued here from the archive of the renowned lawyer and journalist set an important date, June 24, 1906, noted at the end of the preliminary text written by its author as a poetic creed. Such a time reference is useful to establish the coordinates of the material presented under the title En la calle, en la casa, en el campo (In the street, in the house, in the field), which is published here for the first time.
This lyrical collection was kept in limbo, perhaps in good part because of the explanations given by the author in its presentation: “it has been more felt than thought, both because in every work, and in poetic works of preference, I believe that sincerity must vibrate, and because it has not been written in obedience to a preconceived purpose, to win the applause of the learned, who deny it as a matter of course, or the easy admiration of the crowds [sic]...”.
