SCHOOL TO WORK. WORK SKILLS DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP: Instructor's manual
Synopsis
The "School to Work" method is a training program for adults, aimed at developing cognitive and social skills for job searching. It is based on the method published by the University of Michigan under the name JOBS (Job Search Success Strategies). It was translated into Finnish and published by the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health as Työn. The translation and editing in Spanish were carried out by Jorge Santana, Priscila Yahel Muñoz, Carolina Avalos, and Luis Enrique Regalado for the Research Project "Career Path of University Graduates: Sociocognitive Skills and Social Capital in Job Insertion, Retention, and Separation," directed by Dr. Javier Ruvalcaba Coyaso.
Based on the joint work between the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health (FIOH) and the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes, the UAA was authorized to have the first version of the Method in Spanish. Within the framework of this collaboration, discussion scenarios were created on different lines of research about unemployment, but the most relevant was the discovery of the School to Work method, which was implemented in Finland through the FIOH. This was applied with students in their final year of high school, who were transitioning from formal education to the labor market.
This manual and what it represents in terms of applicability is one of those strategies to train people in job searching; its main objective is to promote the development of cognitive-social skills in students who are about to graduate, so they can have a successful transition to the job market. What is intended in addition to facilitating a successful transition to the job market? Contribute to the acquisition and development of cognitive-social skills to face the challenge of finding employment, but also to transfer them to their daily lives: it's not about acquiring a specific strategy, but about using it in any other area of their lives.
