THUS SING THE TREES OF MY REGION, VOICES OF HOPE FOR MEXICO: An ecomusicopedagogical proposal
Synopsis
This text is the result of a collaborative research entitled “This is how the trees of my region sing. Voices of hope for Mexico”, which was registered with the General Directorate of Research and Graduate Studies of the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes with the code PIE22-1. It formally began in January 2022 and concluded in December 2023. The results were organized into two parts.
The first contains six chapters. The first, “Socioecology, ecomusicology and ecopedagogy: A transdisciplinary proposal by composers in Mexico”, presents the theoretical-methodological problematization of the research and a general overview of the process. The second, “Environmental awareness: Interdisciplinary dialogues”, presents the analysis of the conferences given during the first phase of the research, as a sample of what is currently being done from an ecological perspective in different disciplines. In the third chapter, “Compositional intentions: The authors narrate,” the hermeneutic dialogue with the participating composers is presented to recover their intentions, which go beyond musical interest. The fourth and fifth chapters, “Jazz and mangroves in Nayarit: Musical ecopedagogy for social change” and “Sound miniatures for today's children: Socio-ecological-educational dialogues with a composer” are the result of the writing of texts in co-authorship, explored as a possible path of hermeneutic dialogue to learn about the creative processes of the composers. The first part closes with the sixth chapter: “Psychopedagogical contributions of ecological songs” by Dr. Karla María Reynoso Vargas who, from her specialty as an educational psychologist, performs an analysis of the process and relevance of this research in the training of undergraduate students.
The chapters of the second part of the book are dedicated to each of the composers who donated their creations to this research. It contains the graphic representation –scores– of each of the twenty-five ecomusicopedagogical proposals that can be freely used by music educators. It closes with a chapter dedicated to the reflection on the critical editing process achieved in this publication.
With this work, we contribute to the strengthening of the Knowledge Generation and Application Line (LGAC) Musical knowledge and production processes, which we cultivate in the consolidated Academic Body UAA-CA-117, Education and knowledge of music.
