Synopsis

If something characterizes Mexican antiquarian bookstores, it is that each shelf can take us to different times, to different formats, to other ways of understanding printed culture. And this is precisely what we have tried to recover in this work. In this way, temporalities, narrative forms and genres, literary conceptions, definitions are intertwined. The narrator of one text can become a character in the following one, and in turn the object of analysis in the subsequent one. A small detail mentioned by one of the authors can become the center of the story in the following chapter. We do not forget that to relate is precisely to weave, to interweave, and that is what we have proposed here.

We find from a broad historiographical account to a series of chronicles, glossaries, specific stories, autobiographies, journalistic accounts, among other possibilities. We hope that this will lead the reader, just as if he or she were in one of these bookstores, on a tour of the shelves, select the entries, decide what to read, be surprised by a find. And although we have established an order at the time of organizing the book, we leave you free to start wherever you want, to explore this territory of bibliodiversity in your own way.
