Synopsis

The essays gathered in this book originated in the search to relate and contextualize the history of the family and mestizaje, a topic on which I have worked in recent years, with the strategies of "social reproduction" of the Old Regime starting from the formation of a political order based on the Pater familias and the Economy, where the king personifies the paternal figure of a large family formed by the aristocracy, but also by the agents of the empire that would make up the universal monarchy. Because we start from the idea that there is a clear relationship between the Pater familias and the Economy (the economy of the home and the common good) and the construction of a plural, religious political order with an emphasis on the monogamous family, from which the New Spanish society would be formed. However, we know little about how this order was established particularly in the kingdom of New Galicia, the territory to which the following works are focused.
