Synopsis

Social representations are organized in complex systems of values, ideas, metaphors and beliefs that make it possible to establish a social order that guides the communication and actions of each member of a society. Representation is a form of knowledge constructed and shared by collectives that facilitates identification with a group and frames the actions of each subject based on a common reality.

In this book we are interested in reflecting on what happens in the representations we have from art, architecture and heritage with respect to the cultural intersections that define the contemporary: how are constructed, or do we construct, the representations with which we know and, at the same time, organize our reality, to what phenomena, practices or situations do they refer, what meanings do they carry and what do they reveal (if the verb can be used without a metaphysical sense) of the physical and symbolic world we inhabit? The backbone of the analysis consists both in the investigation of diverse symbolizing practices, as well as in the figuration of spaces as a key to understand our times, dominated by an economic-political view of the body, territory and history.
