THE COLLABORATIVE CONSTRUCTION OF WIKIPEDIA IN SPANISH
Synopsis
Wikipedia writers are not just numbers typing letters, programming bots to correct spelling mistakes or reverse vandalism, and sitting in front of a computer for hours to create articles. They are also activists of 'knowledge sharing' and 'hacker ethics' who meet to talk about the issues surrounding the movement or to raise digital rights issues. The “Wikipedians”, as they call themselves, do not claim to know everything, but to be able to gather, organize and disseminate what can be said about humanity and what humans have created. Unlike other Internet companies, they also create a community, bonds of friendship and establish power relations in an environment of horizontal participation, asymmetries of power and veiled hierarchies. This text emphasizes the actors who create Wikipedia, the editors, but also the medium (the wiki interface), which is not perfect and has a series of rules that are modified by the users. It also takes into account face-to-face interactions, as well as the strategies that users choose to convince others regarding the content they want to add or delete.
