ASCUARIO AND OTHER POETRY BOOKS [1948-1994].
Synopsis
Desiderio Macías Silva (1922-1995) is the most relevant poet of the 20th century from Aguascalentense. On the one hundredth anniversary of his birth, the two main cultural institutions of his state join forces to offer the reading public the most extensive compilation of the books of poetry he published between 1948 and 1994, which are included in this Centennial Edition.
From a profound humanism, cultivated from a very young age, Desiderio Macías Silva combined his medical profession with literature. To these two passions he added his interest in classical languages. Thus, in the writing of his works one can appreciate a personal style, created in the indissoluble imbrication between noble ideals, intense and novel language, and very high poetic capacities.
In that proverbial dialectic of light and shadow that is the world, this poet decided for the light and always pursued the elevated, the superior, looking for a possible apocatastasis, which he liked to translate as “decay”. This ascending eagerness is the core of all his poetry.
Accompanying the poet in this conquest, by reading his work, is the best tribute we can make in this celebration of his centenary.
